Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother and her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. She suffered from an anxiety disorder based on words as a young toddler. Ford was interested in the field of acting during her teens and became a member of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she would not be a good for the school. Ford decided to apply instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured a position on her fourth attempt. Her classmate were Shaun Dingwall, who would later have a recurring role in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV programs such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning during the Nineties. The regular theatre work she performed brought her into the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate was recognized for her stand-up comedy, which became part of her repertoire in the year 1996.
